REBCO WG meeting

US/Pacific
Description
  • What performances and parameters should the conductor have? How can we make magnets using these conductors?
  • What is the maximum dipole field a REBCO magnet can generate?
  • What is the magnet performance? How does it quench? What is the field quality?
  • Does the magnet performance degrade, e.g., during operation, after thermal cycles? If so, how can we prevent it?
  • How can we characterize the performance for long conductors?
    • 11:00 11:45
      Status update 45m
      • Subscale common coil
      • COMB
      • CCT
Speakers: Anis Ben Yahia (Brookhaven National Laboratory), Maxim Martchevskii, Ramesh Gupta (BNL), Reed Teyber (LBNL), Vadim Kashikhin (Fermilab), Vito Lombardo (Fermilab), Xiaorong Wang (LBNL)
      • Subscale common coil
        • Reed provided input on the instrument needs for Piyush to develop the schematic for the BNL test facility.
        • Maxim will follow up with Ramesh if the proposed groove can be machined by BNL.
      • COMB
        • ACT examined the samples being bent at FNAL and found that a fresh lubricant can significantly improve the Ic retention, e.g., >85% at a bending diameter of 50 mm.
        • FNAL plans to send a straight wire to ACT to apply fresh lubricant for FNAL to test the bending performance relevant for the COMB design
      • C3
        • Started preparation work for the 3-turn version.
        • Updated the results on using Stycast to fill the radial gap between mandrels.
        • Will continue the impregnation test using short CORC wires using epoxy that can be cured at room temperature.
