Abstract:
AUP has specific requirements for temperature accuracy, uniformity, and calibration for the heat treatment (HT) of extracted strand RRR samples. However, the previous HT system did not allow for appropriate thermocouple calibration, which then impacted confidence in the HT temperatures per these specs. This talk discusses improvements to the HT system to address these shortcomings, and to also create a more modular retort design to facilitate future (non-AUP) heat treatments. As the samples must be heat treated in an argon atmosphere, it was also discovered that the furnace retort sealing was imperfect at best and unacceptable at worst. Retort sealing best practices will also be discussed.
