REBCO WG meeting #6

US/Pacific
Anis Ben Yahia (Brookhaven National Laboratory), Ernesto Bosque (NHMFL), Ramesh Gupta (BNL), Stephen Gourlay (LBNL), Vadim Kashikhin (Fermilab), Vito Lombardo (Fermilab), Xiaorong Wang (LBNL)
Description
  • What performances and parameters should the conductor have? How can we make magnets using these conductors?
  • What is the maximum dipole field a REBCO magnet can generate?
  • What is the magnet performance? How does it quench? How to protect the magnet during a quench? What is the field quality?
  • How can we characterize the performance for long conductors?

      Followup and update

      • Feedback from the hybrid design WG: how to boost the current of REBCO wires to be compatible with Nb3Sn outsert magnets and to allow one power supply?
        • For both wires, we may consider including multiple wires to form one conductor to boost the current.
      • On the other hand, for the actual hybrid test, in particular at the early stage of development and test, it would be useful to power the insert with a dedicated power supply. Is it possible to synchronize the power supplies for both insert and outsert such that it can be equivalent to the one-power supply scenario?

      • REBCO testing effort is planned to be resumed.
